The Lamentation of Old Pensioner
The Lamentation of Old Pensioner is a poem composed by W.B Yeats. The old man is very angry and sad with the time because the time has changed him to the old from his new age. The old man compares himself to the bare old tree.

There are three-stanza in the poem
Speaker – Old Man
Use of past tense and present tense deals with the power of time.
In the first stanza, the writer draws a picture of his old and youth age. He shows the picture of the present and past. So the first stanza deals with the loss of social life and he blames times for the transformation of old and youth age. During the time of W.B Yeats Ireland was a colony of Great Britain United Kingdom. And it was ruled by autocratic British rulers. The Irish people were satisfied with the British government. and they started a nationalist movement against the British government for Ireland’s independence. In the very text, the reference of the lags is a reference to the Irish Youth and the very word pikes refers to that very upspring or nationalist movement. So he deals with losing the political life of the speakers.
In the third stanza, he depicts the loss of romantic life. He finds that has converted him into an old man. In Fact, the speaker has become as ugly as a broken tree. Along with this transfiguration, there is a loss of social, political, and romantic life. Speakers highlight the idea of transfiguration through time. In conclusion, he is very furious with time and expresses the desire to spit into the face of time.
