Summary

“Waterloo” is composed by Arthur Conan Doyle. The leading character of this play is Corporal Gregory Brewster. He is a 96 years old retired army, looking after by an assistant (housekeeper). Norah came to visit him at the same time Mc.donald and Colonel also came to visit him. Norah and Mc Donald introduce each other.

In the play, Brewster is an old, thin, wrinkled face, with white hair. He is a problem in hearing, and tense about the cold weather, and anxious for food and rum. Because of his old age, his characters seem childish. He is ashamed while Norah says that she has come by train and can read the Bible. The interesting thing is that he wants to listen to war even in the Bible. Arthur Conan Doyle becomes rude to Norah when she tells that everything is peaceful in heaven…

He doesn’t like to be thankful for the new technological developments. He cries like a small child when his pipe breaks and immediately he smiles when a new pipe is given by McDonald. The writer likes to watch the soldiers marching. Also, he likes the band playing and loves to feel a gun. When people say that they are proud of him, and remember the Regent and his words. He suggests the Colonel give him a military funeral when he dies. Currently, he fell down and became unconscious with a cold body. At the end of the play, M.c Donald said he leaves for heaven and meets his battle friend.
