Map war between India and Nepal

The map war between India and Nepal over the Kalapani and Lipulek and Limpiyadhura is become the current controversial issue. This war started when India has released a new map showing Nepal’s land Kalapani and Lipulek as Indian territory.  Nepalese politician and media raises concern after Indian new map releases.

The Reason Behind This Map War

In a recent map released by the Ministry of Home Affairs of India after declaring two internal union territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh late last month. The map shows both Kalapani and Lipulek as part of India.

Nepal claimed Lipulekh as a primary territory and had previous brought to the attention of the Indian counterparts. But since the Sino-Indian war of 1962, it is being controlled by Indian created 19 police/army camp. After the war finish India removed 18 camps out of 19. In Kalapani one camp remain there forever as a border security force.

When kings ruled Nepal they keep silence for many reasons. And when democracy rises in Nepal then it becomes as a main political agenda. Politician, intellectual experts and other Nepalese people started to raise different argument with historical proof.

Change of political situation or agenda in Nepal

In 2015, an agreement was made between India and China about opening a trading post in the area of Lipulekh. At that time Nepal was strongly opposed. Nepalese Intention was to solve this issue through diplomatic means with both Nations.

This controversial land is a part of the Darchula district of Nepal while India places it under the Pithoragarh (Dharchula) district in the state of Uttarakhand. So the political map updated by India creates controversy in Nepal. Both New dehli and Kathmandu claim to a same land as part of their country’s territory.

Many expert of Nepal believe that India has not honored at 1950’s Sughauli Treaty and other treaties. But Indian experts claim that, people who are staying in there more than 60 years through this reason they never can be Nepalese.  Another reason they says The Kali river is not the same which is claimed by Nepali.

Nepal has published Original Map

Nepal has published a new political map that including Limpiyadhura, Lipulekh and Kalapani. It claims the territory under a 1860’s treaty with the British East India company sets the Kali river as its western boundary with India.  And says the land lying east of the river was its territory.

That’s why the controversy created and both of the countries shown Kalapani, Lipulekh and Limpiyadhura  in their political map. So these are also the main reasons behind the map war between India and Nepal.

Way to solve this conflict.

To solve the border encroachment problem, we need to sit for dialogue, discussion, and should have mutual understanding with each other. Though Nepal has requested a number of times to stop the border encroachment, yet, India has not heard. India has the tendency of domineering. Due to it, Nepal is facing the territory encroachment problem.

Firstly,

There is no exact tri-border between three countries Nepal, India and China. In one survey of a boarder of Nepal, China and India they cannot point out exact tri-point.  So China and Nepal pointed boarder line from second pillar. India and Nepal declared Kali river as a boarder.  But the Indian changed the name of original Kali river and gave name Kali river to a small storm. That’s why Nepal and India have to assure about which is real Kali river. And China, India and Nepal have to declare about exact tri-border Pillar.

Secondly

Nepal and India both country should consult old recorded documents related to it. Both of the countries should hold talks with mutual understanding. It would be unwise diplomatic work to put signature on the border agreement paper without identifying. Without finalizing the entire border disputes, signature should not be put on the agreement paper.

Thus the map war between India and Nepal over Lipulekh, Kalapani and Limpiyadhura have to solve as soon as possible with their mutual understanding and hope to continue never ending  peace and friendship.
